Fun with Delaware State Parks

Beach, boardwalk, and restaurants are popular attractions for both those living close to the beaches and visitors.  As much fun as it can be to spend some time in the sun and trying out new cuisine, there are also some other fun things that you can add to your day that can change things up just a bit, especially events offered through Delaware State Parks.  Here are some events that are worth considering to be added to your calendar.

At Fenwick Island State Park, come and join a park naturalist in search of ghost crabs along the beach for their “Wild Crab Chase”!  This event is free and all you need is a flashlight so that you can spot these animals running along the beach as they go into their homes or search for food.  Pre-registration is required so please call 302-227-6991 to save your spot.

Love to hike?  Why not hike the Indian River Inlet Bridge?  That’s right, you can do an evening hike on this bridge at the Delaware Seashore State Park and learn about how the inlet was shaped, the bridges, and how the current bridge came to be.  The cost for this adventure is only $6 per person and you must pre-register before the event starts.  There is online registration that closes 24 hours before the event starts or you can call 302-227-6991 to register or find out more information.

Have you ever seen a war battery or wanted to tour one?  Now is your chance with the “Discover Battery 519 at Fort Miles Historical Area”.  Learn about the construction of this battery and how Fort Miles intended to defend the United States from threats of war.  These tours are for people ages 7 and up that are accompanied by a paying adult with a cost of $5 per person.

Would you rather take a more relaxing approach to experience the coastal wildlife?  Take the “Explore the Coastline of Delaware” tour with Cape Water Tours and Taxi.  These tours are approximately two hours long and hosted by staff from both Cape Henlopen State Park and Delaware State Seashore Park.  On this tour you can expect to learn not only about the wildlife, but about the tower structures and local history as you cruise the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.  These tours cost $28 for Adults, $27 for Military/Seniors (60 and over), and $22 for Children (11 years and younger).  Please click the link below to make your reservation and see availability.

The above are only a few functions that the Delaware State Parks have to offer.  With so many events offered daily and throughout the year and state, there is something for everyone to enjoy and with affordable prices.  Interested in registering online for some of these events or would like to see what dates they are happening?  Click on the link below to see the events mentioned above and more.  Please stay safe and happy exploring!
