Trigger Lead Ban: A Step Towards Homebuyer Privacy

Trigger Lead Ban: A Step Towards Homebuyer Privacy
The Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act is one step closer to becoming law. If signed by the President, trigger leads will officially be a banned practice, marking a significant victory for homebuyers across the nation.
What’s a Trigger Lead and Why Does It Matter?
When a homebuyer applies for a mortgage, their credit is pulled. Unfortunately, this information can be sold by credit bureaus to competing lenders, who then bombard the borrower with unsolicited calls and offers. This practice, known as a trigger lead, can lead to confusion and frustration for borrowers who never consented to share their information.
By passing the trigger lead ban, we aim to reduce the amount of spam communication that homebuyers receive when applying for a mortgage. This will not only protect borrowers' privacy but also create a more streamlined and less stressful homebuying experience.
When Will It Go Into Effect?
The bill is expected to be signed by the President soon. Once that happens, the law will take effect 180 days later. We’ll keep you updated as that date becomes official, so stay tuned!
